Dear friends,
You HAVE to watch Good People! That's our latest play which opens on 1 Nov. We had a preview of the show last week where 50 people attended, and their response was amazing.
"I thought the actors were very convincing in their roles, and brought out various moral complexities that each of them were dealing with."
"I really like the direction that TNS' work is taking at the moment - it's back to the solid writing that Haresh is known for, still exploring social issues through the personal, but playing with aesthetic form in very subtle and challenging ways."
"It's interesting that the play did not only focus on the issue of marijuana consumption as pain relief, but also looked at moral and medical ethics, euthanasia, and what it meant to be - I guess as your title indicates - a good person."

Written by Haresh Sharma and directed by Alvin Tan, Good People is our only original play presented as part of our 20th anniversary season.
The play is set in a hospice and deals with issues of marijuana use, death penalty and simply… faith and goodness.
Below are details about the play. Tickets are available from www.gatecrash.com.sg.For more information, visit www.necessary.org or call us anytime at 6440 8115.
We promise you a truly meaningful experience.
Yours in goodness,The Necessary Stage Team

Synopsis
Good People is a thought-provoking play that deals with the issues of living, dying, and the pain in between. Set in a hospice, it deals with the ups and downs of the relationships between three people - Miguel, the new Medical Director trying to run a tight ship; Yati, the jaded nurse making the best of a 'dead-end' job; and Radha, the terminally-ill patient who consumes marijuana to relieve her pain.
As the three get to know each other, complications arise. If Radha gets caught, will she be given the death penalty when she has only a few months to live? If Miguel and Yati turn a blind eye to her consumption of drugs, how do they reconcile their complicit silence with professional ethics? Is it humane to allow a patient overcome with pain to seek temporary relief through forbidden means? Or is it morally correct to deprive her of such recourse?
In line with The Necessary Stage's current focus on intercultural collaboration, the play features three exceptional actors from around the region: Rody Vera (The Philippines), Sukania Venugopal (Malaysia) and Siti Khalijah (Singapore), the latter who was most recently nominated as Best Actress in The Straits Times Life! Theatre Awards this year. It will also feature a stunning set design by Vincent Lim from Singapore, and lighting design by Mac Chan from Malaysia.
This project also sees The Necessary Stage's first collaboration with established sonic artists Madeleine Flynn and Tim Humphrey from Australia.
